Customer Reviews
Customer Review: “This thing is the bomb. I had one of its competitors’ products a few years ago and it was OK, but I needed a new carpet cleaner for my carpeted stairway (the only carpet I have in my house), and I already have a Shark vacuum and a Shark stick vacuum that I love, so I thought I’d give this a whirl even though it’s a bit more expensive than some of the others. It didn’t disappoint. Shark’s come a long way in the reliability and finesse of its products from the first leaky iron I bought 20 years ago, and they’re now among the best out there. This thing is perfect for cleaning stairs. All I can say is I’m really impressed. It’s actually a lot quieter than I expected, super light weight with a convenient handle, both the cord and the hose store easily on the device (the hose nozzle even has a notch to attach to the unit’s body). It came with both the base cleaning solution and an oxidizing booster solution, both of which have dedicated tanks (the solution tank must be filled with water and topped off with cleaning solution). Also comes with three brushes – a small one integrated into the hose for crevices, a 3″ hand tool, a 7” hand tool (which is the one I used), and a “pet waste” tool with a small tank on it which I did not have to use, thankfully, LOL. Has a solid spray and cleans super well, and I was surprised with how much dark gray solution it extracted out of my stairway carpet. The hand tools have integrated brushes and it was quite easy to maneuver around and carry. Filling and emptying the three tanks (Water + cleaner, oxidizer and extracted waste tank) was super easy and all three just pull off of the unit. The waste and cleaning solution tanks have their own handles. I immediately bought a couple of bottles of replacement solution for future use. I also liked how they packaged it – they used recycled cardboard inserts and no styrofoam. Only two small things I think could be improved: The included power cord is fairly short, so if you want to clean something like a stairwell, you’ll need a three-prong extension cord in all likelihood to reach your outlet. The cord could be longer. Also – the included cleaner bottle (Deep Clean Pro) was quite small, and might be good for maybe three tanks of water – and the Oxy Multiplier solution, which you’ll use far less of, was much larger, which I thought was strange. It should be the reverse. The replacement units I bought of both were much larger. Small gripes, though. All in all, this thing is well executed and a great value and I’m really happy with it.”
Customer Review: “Only room in house with carpet is closet so needed something small to clean a mess my dog made. This little machine is easy to use and has great suction. Area dried quick. Picture shows an area I started that had dried pee I didn’t know was there. So picture shows the spot cleaned and no stain. Of course will have to do whole closet due to dirt, but it cleaned awesome. I haven’t tried all the other tools with it yet, but so far it cleans great. Highly recommend for pet owners to clean spot messes.”
3. Shark WD161 HydroVac MessMaster
The Shark HydroVac MessMaster redefines floor cleaning by combining three functions into one: vacuuming, mopping, and self-cleaning. This corded powerhouse is ideal for hard floors and area rugs, leaving them streak-free and sparkling. Its continuous self-cleaning system is a standout feature, preventing dirt from being redeposited. For a thorough, hands-on clean that saves you from bending over with a separate mop, this is the budget-friendly champion.
Key Features That Stand Out
- ✓ 3-in-1 Function: Vacuums dry debris, mops wet messes, and cleans its own brush roll.
- ✓ Self-Cleaning System: Continuously rinses the brush roll to prevent dirt spread and odors.
- ✓ Powerful Hydro-Mopping: Uses cleaning solution and water to dissolve grime and sticky spills.
- ✓ Easy Maintenance: One-touch clean cycle for tanks and brush roll; all parts are removable.
Why We Recommend It
This machine transforms a chore into a quick task. You get the deep clean of a mop with the convenience of a vacuum. The self-cleaning mechanism is incredibly effective at maintaining hygiene and performance. For anyone tired of the two-step vacuum-then-mop routine on tile, laminate, or sealed wood floors, the HydroVac is a revelation.
Best For
Homes with predominantly hard flooring (tile, laminate, vinyl, sealed wood) and area rugs. It’s perfect for busy households, pet owners, and anyone who wants a faster, more hygienic way to maintain clean floors without multiple tools.
Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Excellent cleaning power on hard floors and low-pile rugs.
- Self-cleaning brush roll is genuinely effective and easy to use.
- Saves significant time compared to separate vacuuming and mopping.
- Simple, intuitive controls and easy tank emptying.
Cons:
- Not designed for deep cleaning grout lines or very thick carpets.
- The corded model, while reliable, limits mobility compared to cordless options.
Customer Reviews
Customer Review: “My house has ALL wood, bamboo and tile floors. I’ve said over the years that I wanted a maid to come in and just do the floors. A pregnancy injury left me in pain most of the time and floors are really hard for me. I started with a robot vacuume that I love love love. Next I wanted an electric mop. After reading all the reviews, the corded plug in Shark Hydrovac is what I bought. I am reading poor reviews here under this product, but they continually mention the weak battery. My review is for the corded plug in vacuume not a cordless model. My floors have never been cleaner. I used the vacuume over the course of two days and about 10 hours for an initial clean. The bamboo floor is only six years old and sealed. That floor was so easy to clean, although I still cleaned it three times over since it hasn’t been cleaned in over six months. The kitchen tile was super easy too, although it doesn’t reach the grout, my daughter is young and took on the challenge to clean the grout with a nifty grout brush I found. The hard part to clean is the 30 year old wood floors with areas where the seal is worn off. We bought the house from someone who’s dogs had scratched the floors and wore off the finish in high traffic areas. This was the hard part to clean the first time. I did the same as with the bamboo and cleaned it the times over. After it was done, I realized there were areas of built up dirt on the unsealed areas I had not been getting clean. I decided to go back and clean this area by hand with a scrub brush to get it where I wanted. After that the floors have been a snap to keep clean. I’ve put in about 20 hours with the vacuume so far and have had zero problems. Some reviews say you can’t vacuume and mop together. I didn’t even try that. I vacuume with the robot first, then mop. I don’t want to risk scratching the floor with a gritty mop. It is super easy to clean. The clean tank chines right out with the push of a button. The dirty tank is the same way. I dump it in the sink, rinse it and either use it again or put it on a towel to drain and dry. There is a sponge on the filter that I rinse and squeeze and put on the towel to dry. The beater bar comes out easily. I rinse under the faucet in the kitchen sink and squeeze by grabbing the bar and turning it around with the other hand. Again, I either put it back on the mop to keep cleaning or leave it on its end to dry on the towel. The vacuume without the beater bar and without the dirty tank, has a very short tube between the two that cleans easily with a bottle brush that is not included, but I already own it. All these parts are removable and replaceable with one hand. I find it easy to use, easy to empty the dirty tank and easy to refill the clean tank. The mop has a self clean feature that works pretty well, but I found that it is easy enough to clean it the way I described above and decided that is rather care for it myself and allow the parts to all dry completely. I’ve had zero issues with mold or a moldy smell. My floors are cleaner than they have been in years and are easy to maintain after the initial clean I have them. Note, I have a corgi dog that sheds all year. The robot vacuume and the Shark mop have changed my life. I don’t leave the house covered in fur anymore. Once a week I vacuume and mop, or one other day in between if we are all off work for holidays and tracking more dust and dirt. Everyone in the house is impressed with his easily the floor is kept in a very clean and neat state. Along with the robot vacuume, this mop is the best investment I’ve made in householt cleaning tools, ever.”
Customer Review: “I am so pleased with this vac that I have to pass the word. ( Previously , I purchased a Bissel Pet Pro Crosswave. It only worked for about a dozen uses. It left quite a bit of water on the floor too. Cleaning it was gross but I was sure to do it properly each time.)I am the owner of 3 different SHARK vacs and they’re all terrific for their type of machine. The MESSMASTER works just as I’d hoped. Good suction for cleaning solution, good brush action for soil too. My floor looks great. The cherry on top is the “auto clean” feature. WOW. A big time saver and the brush roll looks clean. I am leaving the brush open along with the solution container to air dry. SHARK is the better appliance.”

Customer Reviews
Customer Review: “For the price, this little cleaner is a champ. I bought it specifically for my car’s cloth seats after my toddler had a potty accident. It pulled the stain right out and the seats dried surprisingly fast. It’s not as powerful as my brother’s Bissell, but for under $50, it does exactly what I needed. Easy to rinse out too.”
Customer Review: “I use this for quick cleanups on my living room rug and my dog’s bed. It works well for fresh spills and light stains. The brush head is a good size. My only complaint is that the power cord isn’t super long, so I have to use an extension cord for bigger rugs. But for the price and its portability, I’m happy with it.”

Customer Reviews
Customer Review: “This vacuum has serious suction. I used it to clean a years-old pet stain on my basement carpet that I thought was permanent. After two passes, the stain was completely gone and the carpet looked new. The long hose is perfect—I didn’t have to keep picking up the machine. It’s a bit loud, but for the power, I’ll deal with it.”
Customer Review: “Bought this for my truck’s cloth seats after my dog had a mud incident. It worked like a charm. The dirty water tank showed just how much grime was in there. It’s heavy enough to feel stable but not too heavy to carry. The only thing I wish was different is a place to wrap the hose on the unit for storage.”
