Customer Reviews
Customer Review: “I have an older Dyson vacuum and it definitely needed to be replaced. I finally decided to replace it and because I have owned many Bissell over the last 40 odd years. I like that Bissell gives to dog charities for every purchase. I like the vacuum is light and easy to use and does a wonderful job picking up everything. I put it together in about a minute and vacuumed a 4×4 section of carpet twice that was vacuumed with my old Dyson first. Wow, it picked up a full canister and a half of dirt, cat hair and dog hair!😬”
Customer Review: “OMG I think i’ve never had a good vacuum before. This one has so much power it changed the color of my carpet. First pass completely filled the tank where my old vacuum wouldn’t pick anything else up. The tank is super easy to take out and empty (all one enclosed piece). My old vacuum had three parts that fit together and all of them ended up with dirt in them despite the filters so this vacuum is so much cleaner and easier. It’s super easy to maneuver. It picks up all the fine pet hair that my old vacuum passed over. My only small peeve is that the accessories fall off of their posts easily. But really great vacuum for the price.”

Customer Reviews
Customer Review: “This is a long one, but it’s worth the read if you’re doing some serious shopping for a vacuum cleaner: I picked this up in October so I’ve been using it for a few months just to get a genuine sense of how this vacuum really performed and I am absolutely impressed! This beats my Dyson AND my Kirby hands down. Superior suction, amazing maneuverability, lighter than either the Kirby or the Dyson. ( If you’re wondering why I own so many vacuums, I clean for a living.) I bought this for the house. I have two cats and a husband who’s into Warhammer so you know there are sprew bits and cat hair everywhere and this thing handles it like a champ! I wasn’t sold on how small the floor attachment was until I used it: I can get underneath my barstools so much easier now and my entire house ( approx. 2000 sq ft.) is done in 20 minutes, tops! There is a learning curve, but that’s something you get with any new vacuum. I was also super impressed by the ease with which I can switch from floor to handheld attachments. Some of these other vacuums I’ve used are so bulky and difficult to handle all the small attachments… Not this one! I’m able to switch back and forth from floor to handheld quick, fast and in a hurry. Bonus points that it’s lightweight. I’m not killing myself just to vacuum my house. It’s really saved my back! And it was so much less expensive than the Dyson or the Kirby. The window on the floor attachment gives me a clear view of the roller brush ( yeah, it makes me accountable which is a good thing. It’s harder to ignore when I can see it so thanks for that, too. ). The cord is a tad short, so I went ahead a bought a small extension cord to go with it, but other than that, I’m very impressed! I wish I had bought this years ago. I will never buy another vacuum from anyone else other than Shark again. Good job, guys! I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a serious little vacuum.”
Customer Review: “I picked up this Shark Navigator Lift-Away vacuum to replace an older one, and it’s been a big improvement. The suction is strong and does a great job picking up dirt, dust, and pet hair from both carpets and hard floors. One feature I really like is the Lift-Away option, which makes it much easier to clean stairs and tighter spaces without dragging the whole vacuum around. It’s also pretty lightweight and easy to maneuver around furniture. Emptying the dust bin is simple and not messy, which is always a plus. Overall, it’s a reliable vacuum that cleans well and is easy to use throughout the house. Definitely a solid choice if you want something powerful without being overly heavy or complicated.”
5. Shark ZU503AMZ Navigator Lift-Away Upright Vacuum
This is the Shark Navigator evolved for pet owners. The key upgrade is the Self-Cleaning Brushroll, which is engineered specifically to prevent hair wrap—a common nemesis for pet hair vacuums. It maintains powerful pickup without the constant chore of cutting hair out of the roller. Combined with the Lift-Away versatility and sealed HEPA system, it’s a formidable pet hair fighter.
Key Features That Stand Out
- ✓ Self-Cleaning Brushroll: Actively removes hair as it works, preventing clogs and maintaining suction.
- ✓ Lift-Away Functionality: Detachable pod for above-floor and stair cleaning.
- ✓ Anti-Allergen Complete Seal with HEPA: Captures and seals 99.9% of allergens and dander.
- ✓ Swivel Steering: Easy to maneuver around obstacles.
- ✓ Specialized Pet Tools: Includes tools designed for pet hair on various surfaces.
Why We Recommend It
If the #1 complaint about your current vacuum is hair wrap around the brushroll, this is your solution. The self-cleaning technology works impressively well, especially with long pet hair. It takes a frustrating maintenance task out of the equation, making weekly cleaning genuinely easier.
Best For
Owners of long-haired dogs and cats (like Huskies, Persians, etc.) who are all too familiar with the weekly ritual of de-tangling vacuum brushes. Also great for anyone wanting the Navigator’s versatility with an extra layer of pet-specific engineering.
Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Self-cleaning brushroll drastically reduces maintenance.
- Excellent, consistent suction power.
- Full HEPA filtration for allergens.
- Lift-Away design adds great versatility.
Cons:
- Premium price compared to the standard Navigator model.
- Some users report the pet tools storage isn’t as intuitive.
Customer Reviews
Customer Review: “I cannot say enough how much I love this vacuum. I had went through a few different vacuums that work amazing at first but then after a month, lose suction. I’ve had this one a few months now and the suction is still strong and works like it’s brand new. It was easy to put together and came with instructions, although you don’t really need them, it’s pretty simple. & it was an amazing deal because this vacuum is normally twice the price everywhere else! It will also last forever which saves money in itself because you won’t have to keep purchasing a new vacuum every year. The suction is just as strong as the day I bought it, it picks up dirt and everything else with ease. I own a cleaning company and use this for the company as well as at home and have had zero issues. If you’re looking for a good, quality vacuum- this is the one to get!”
Customer Review: “I am where vacuums go to die. With 4 dogs and 5 cats, living on a mountain farm, I kill vacuums on a regular basis. I’ve managed to take out everything from an old Kirby to a new Dyson & everything in between. Even the ones designed for pet hair didn’t last long. Then I got a shark navigator. It was true love! It was like having a Catholic priest come in on a regular basis to perform an exorcism on my carpets. For years, me & my Shark performed miracles in my home, proclaiming from my mountain top… THIS HOUSE IS CLEAN! Then we moved. I allowed a stranger to take my beloved Shark and haul it 2600 miles. By the time it arrived, it was too late. I founded it shoved behind a pile of boxes, hidden by the movers until after they left. It was literally in pieces, it’s hoses and cords shredded and pulled from thier sockets. The handle snapped off at the neck, there was no chance of resurrection. I couldn’t imagine what kind of torture my poor loyal side kick had endured, and was in doubt I would ever know such admiration for a household appliance again. I started the quest for a new vacuum, of course I knew it would be impossible to find such perfection again. Each year the new models get cheaper in parts while more expensive in price. After days of exhaustive searching… thinking perhaps I could find a remanufactured version of my old pal, I gave up. It was time to admit I had to buy something different. Still, my Navigator had been so wonderful, and I hadn’t found anything on the market that seemed better so I ordered a newer model, and set my heart to disappointment. Certainly I would never find another who could make my heart pitter pat like that again! My new Shark arrived and I pulled it from the box. It was pretty, shiny, and a lovely color. I assembled the parts easily, hearing the click as each locked in place. It had a good weight to it, though I felt a bit like betraying a loved one as I tucked it into the closet… not yet ready to actually turn it on for a test run. The puppy took advantage of my distraction, as cable & internet providers came and went. The pup shredded anything he found tempting that had already been unpacked, including packing material. Little Styrofoam pieces and bits of a silk flower arrangement littered a bedroom floor. A calendar lying on top of a box would no longer adorn our wall. And fluffy bits of golden retriever dotted the carpet where he had rolled and played during his destructive frolic. I cleaned up what i could by hand and then instinctively reached in the closet for my Shark. It was not my dear, loyal soldier that heeded my call for assistance. No, there was a new soldier at the ready and it was time to see if it could handle the job. I plugged it in, and turned it on. The Shark came to life, illuminated with the power surging through it. With a light touch, the new machine moved as though floating over the floor, and followed my directions as though reading my mind. The shredded debris was instantly gone, nothing missed, no second pass needed. It was so efficient we were done before I knew it. I popped out the tank, emptied it and slipped it back in with ease. I rewrapped the cord and rolled the vacuum back to the closet. As I tucked it in to its spot I gave it a quick pat and whispered, “That’ll do Shark. That’ll do.” It had done its duty well, with no hesitation or complaints. My old friend was laid to rest, and a new one had come to fill the hole in my heart & my closet. My dogs & cats fur would not be allowed to over run my home. I had a new champion that promised to fight the good fight. All that remains to be seen is how long it will last. A s we all lived happily ever after.”
6. Shark ZU102 Rotator Pet Upright Vacuum
The Shark Rotator line is known for its powerful cleaning and this pet-focused model is no exception. It features PowerFins HairPro brushrolls that actively grip and capture stubborn long and short hair without wrapping. The addition of Odor Neutralizer Technology is a standout feature, helping to combat that “old vacuum” smell that can develop from trapped pet odors. It’s a durable, high-capacity machine built for serious pet mess.
Key Features That Stand Out
- ✓ PowerFins HairPro Brushroll: Silicone fins grab and remove pet hair without wrapping.
- ✓ Self-Cleaning Brushroll: Additional mechanism to prevent hair wrap on the main roller.
- ✓ Odor Neutralizer Technology: Helps eliminate stale odors inside the vacuum.
- ✓ Huge 2.9L Dust Cup: Less frequent emptying, even with multiple pets.
- ✓ Swivel Steering & Long Hose: Excellent maneuverability and reach for above-floor cleaning.
Why We Recommend It
It’s arguably Shark’s most powerful anti-hair-wrap technology in an upright. The combination of the PowerFins and self-cleaning roller is devastatingly effective against long, silky, or coarse pet hair that loves to tangle. The odor neutralizer is a thoughtful touch that keeps the machine smelling fresh, which is a common issue with pet vacuums.
Best For
Multi-pet households, especially those with long-haired dogs or cats. Also ideal for anyone who has been frustrated by constant brushroll clogs with other vacuums.
Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Exceptional at capturing long, tangled pet hair.

- Very large dust cup capacity.
- Powerful suction on all surfaces.
Cons:
- Can be a bit heavier than some Shark models.
- Odor neutralizer cartridge is an ongoing cost.
Customer Reviews
Customer Review: “This is my third Shark vacuum and there is a reason I keep buying them! They just work, period. My daughter is moving into her own apartment for the first time and wanted the same Shark we already had. It doesn’t seem to still be available so I let her take it with her and got a new one for myself. I do also own a lift away but find it a little too heavy to carry around. The super long hose on this item achieves the same thing and is way easier to use. Assembly was very easy and no tools were needed. All of the components just click into place and probably took two minutes to assemble. I have learned over time that the two included attachments are the only ones I really use and both can be stored right onboard the vacuum. I love that both the foam and felt filters can be rinsed in water and do not need to be repurchased. That being said, I usually buy another set anyway so that I can rinse one set and still be able to use the vacuum while they completely dry out. As for the performance, it works really well. The ability to easily adjust the level of suction right from the handle means that I can go from a throw rug, to an area rug, to a wood floor quickly and easily. The swivel operates flawlessly and makes maneuvering a breeze. And the extension of the hose is great. To reach the ceiling, I don’t have to do any heavy lifting or stretching. The dust bin is quite large and is also easy to release and empty. This particular item might not have a tons of bells and whistles, but it just works. For 95% of my tasks, it’s all I need. And it is a great value! Every single one of my Shark vacuums are still working great, and I’m sure this item is no exception. For the price, it has everything I need and really exceeded my expectations once I used it. I don’t see any reason to spend three or fours times the cost of this item on any other vacuum, when this item does the job. Highly recommended!”
Customer Review: “I just purchased this vacuum and am really impressed with it after the first use. It was really easy to put together. The instructions included are detailed with pictures. It’s easy to transition to handheld. There’s no extra hose you have to lug around or store. It’s lightweight so moving it up and down my three-story townhouse is easy. It’s also very maneuverable getting around furniture and other items. The suction on this vacuum is amazing. It pulled out so much dirt from my rugs that I had no idea my old vacuum missed. I have a German Shepherd and two long haired cats who all shed a lot. My old vacuum could never get all the fur. I also haven’t had an issue with hair/fur getting stuck in the brushes. This thing pulls up everything. I’m just amazed at how much it picks up. Another feature I love is you can adjust the suction. I have different length rugs and I can lower the suction on the longer length rugs so the vacuum will actually move. There’s also a separate carpet and floor setting. Overall I’m really happy with my purchase so far. I will be able to keep my floors much cleaner. As you can see from the picture this was from an area rug. I had vacuumed with my old vacuum the day before. It clearly missed a LOT of dirt and fur!!”

Customer Reviews
Customer Review: “So far I have used this vacuum twice and It’s a pretty strong stick vacuum. It works really well on carpet and hard floors. I like that it is so versatile. You can use the tools with the stick extension or attach the tools directly to the vacuum for closer jobs. It definitely has a great suction which I love about Shark vacuums. Shark has been one of my favorite brands of vacuum tools. I have used the navigator, i have a cordless hand vacuum that I use to clean my truck that works great and I had a Shark robot vacuum at one point as well. Shark vacuums have just been great machines all around. I will say the reviews about not being able to stand the vacuum up is only somewhat accurate. If the dust bin and motor are attached as you normally would to vacuum your floors then the weight of it will cause it to fall over. The roller brush part isn’t wide enough or heavy enough to hold it up. However, there is a little hook down by the roller on the front of the extension tube that is meant to hold the motor and dust cup. If you remove the motor and place it on the storage hook it will stand up perfectly and become a little more compact. It distributes the weight and BOOM it stands without issues. Love the light on it too. It lit up dust and dirt I couldn’t normally see. I can use it under my bed which I like because my pups like to lay under it with the toy graveyard. It’s a nice machine for a 856 sq ft 1 bedroom apartment. I mostly have hard floors but it works great everywhere. Pretty decent price too for $125. The upholstery tool and brush tool are combined. To use the brush they must be together but to use the upholstery tool you push the release button and the brush will pop off to reveal the upholstery tool. Pretty nifty stuff. As other reviewers mentioned there isn’t a place to store the tools but to me that is a minor inconvenience.”
Customer Review: “I’ve had this little shark vacuum cleaner for almost 2 years and I fall in love again and again, every time I use it. This little vacuum cleaner not only is lightweight but super powerful and gets everything. AND I MEAN EVERYTHING!! I live in a smaller apartment but I have 2 dogs a cat and 4 ferrets, all of them love to shed everywhere, but this vacuum cleaner gets all of it. There’s been a couple times that it would get clogged, but that was mainly user error and once I cleaned it out and did a little bit of maintenance, it worked wonderfully again. The cord length is perfect for each room with extra to spare and considering how much I paid for this vacuum, I’m definitely getting my money’s worth plus some. This vacuum has 2 filters which I didn’t realize when I first started using it. And so when I finally realized that it had 2 filters, they were definitely very dirty when I cleaned them out for the first time. But after cleaning them out, it works like new. If you’re looking for a budget-friendly vacuum cleaner, that is powerful and easy to use this is the one for you.”
8. 6-in-1 Cordless Stick Vacuum
This is a feature-packed cordless contender that competes with much more expensive brands. It boasts a powerful 650W motor and 55KPA suction, which is more than adequate for pet hair on all surfaces. The 70-minute runtime on a single charge is excellent, and the self-standing charging dock is a very convenient all-in-one storage and power solution. The touch display shows battery life and suction mode clearly.
Key Features That Stand Out

Customer Reviews
Customer Review: “This is my first cordless vacuum cleaner, and I am impressed. The suction is amazing. And the battery life is long enough for me to do my entire house when used in the lower mode. Naturally, when you use it in the highest mode, the suction is stronger so your battery life is shortened. This vacuum is lightweight and comes with all the attachments you could ever want. It’s so easy to maneuver and turns on a dime. I love the stand-up feature, so I don’t have to go find a corner to lean the vacuum against. The LED screen shows how much battery life is left. Also so great that it can transition from rugs to floor without changing any settings. So far a great value for the money I spent. It picked up dirt and dust that I didn’t know I had. The packaging was superb. It was easy to put together and very easy to use.”
Customer Review: “This cordless vacuum turned out to be far more capable than I expected. It feels incredibly powerful — I can literally feel it almost pulling the carpet up as I use it. In just a few minutes, it collected an impressive amount of dust and small debris that I didn’t even realize was there. Despite the strong suction, it’s surprisingly lightweight and easy to maneuver. I also love the retractable pipe and the fact that the hand piece detaches to work as a small handheld vacuum, which is perfect for quick cleanups and tight spaces. If you want serious cleaning power in a convenient, cordless design, this vacuum is absolutely worth it.”

Customer Reviews
Customer Review: “I just received mine. Easy assembly from the box. You simply snap on handle, couple attachments and wind up the cord. Ready to go. Powerful suction. I ran it over my carpet that I had just done with my old vacuum and it picked up even more. I have cats, and didn’t even know that hair was still on the carpet. It pulls the throw rugs up from the floor it has that much power. Bare floors, you can put your broom away. Furniture brush works great and now I get get those cobwebs up in the corners. Light weight and easy storage. This one gets five stars from me.”
Customer Review: “My previous vacuum was by a very popular brand, and it was expensive. It had every feature that you could imagine and worked as an upright, canister, and handheld unit. I had it for years and hated it. Why? Because it was very heavy, unwieldy, and bulky. None of the accessories were mounted on the unit, so I never used them. It was so “sophisticated” that it had its own computer board to operate the beater brush. That was what finally did it, and I was glad. This machine is much simpler and significantly less expensive. It is lighter by a mile. All of the accessories mount on it, which is a huge plus, and it is just as powerful as the former premium unit. The cord is slightly shorter than my old vacuum, and that vacuum would turn off the beater brush when the handle was upright. I really did like that feature, but it is also what broke and turned my last vacuum into trash, so I’ll live without it. I have to be honest, I’m tired of “advancement” that makes simple devices more complicated and more prone to failure. This is a basic vacuum. What does it do? It vacuums, and that is just what I need it to do.”

Complete Buying Guide for Best Pet Vacuum Cleaner
Essential Factors We Consider
Choosing the right pet vacuum hinges on your specific messes and home layout. Suction power is paramount—look for high Pa (Pascal) or AW (Air Watts) ratings, especially if you have thick carpets. Filtration is critical for allergy sufferers; a sealed HEPA system traps 99.97% of particles as small as 0.3 microns, including dander. Brushroll design is the biggest factor for hair management. Tangle-free, silicone-based, or self-cleaning brushrolls prevent the dreaded hair wrap. Capacity and emptying matter—large, bagless dust cups that empty cleanly without mess are ideal for heavy shedders. Finally, consider form factor: uprights for whole-home carpet cleaning, stick vacuums for versatility and storage, and robots for daily maintenance.
Budget Planning
Pet vacuums range from under $100 for basic uprights to over $700 for high-end cordless systems. Set a budget based on your needs. For under $200, you can get a highly capable upright like the Shark Navigator or Eureka PowerSpeed. Between $200-$400, you enter the realm of premium cordless sticks (like our #1 pick) and advanced self-emptying robots. The most expensive models offer superior battery tech, AI navigation, and premium attachments. Remember to factor in long-term costs: washable filters save money, while odor neutralizer cartridges or replacement batteries add to the total ownership cost. A mid-range model from a reputable brand often offers the best balance of performance and longevity.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Should I get a bagged or bagless vacuum for pet hair?
A: For pet hair, bagless is almost always the better choice. Bagless models have large, easy-empty dust cups that you can see through, so you know when they’re full. They eliminate the ongoing cost and waste of bags, and emptying is usually a simple, one-touch process. The best bagless vacuums also have advanced filtration (like HEPA) that contains allergens just as well as a bag.
Q: Are robot vacuums effective for pet hair?
A: Yes, modern robot vacuums are very effective for daily maintenance of pet hair on hard floors and low-pile carpets. They run frequently, preventing hair from accumulating. However, they lack the deep suction and agitation of a full-sized upright or stick vacuum for thick carpets or embedded hair. For best results, use a robot for daily touch-ups and a traditional vacuum for weekly deep cleans. Models with self-empty bases are particularly good for pet owners, as they contain the hair and dander in a sealed bag.
Q: What’s more important for pet hair: suction power or brushroll design?
A: Both are critical, but brushroll design is often the deciding factor. A powerful vacuum with a basic brushroll will simply push long hair around and clog it. You need a brushroll specifically engineered for hair—look for terms like “self-cleaning,” “tangle-free,” “PowerFins,” or silicone bristles. These designs actively prevent hair from wrapping. Once you have a good anti-hair-wrap brushroll, then prioritize strong suction to pull the loosened hair from the floor.
Q: How often should I clean the filters and brushroll on a pet vacuum?
A: For heavy shedders, check and clean the brushroll for hair wrap every 1-2 uses. Most good pet vacuums make this easy with a removable head. Washable filters should be rinsed with cold water and dried completely every 1-3 months, depending on use. Never operate a vacuum with a wet filter. If your vacuum uses a HEPA filter, it may not be washable; follow the manufacturer’s replacement schedule, typically every 6-12 months for pet households. A clogged filter severely reduces suction and motor performance.
Q: Can I use a pet vacuum in my car?
A: Absolutely, and it’s a great idea! Many of the vacuums on this list, especially the cordless sticks and handhelds, are perfect for car detailing. Look for models that convert to a handheld (like the Shark Rocket) or come with a crevice tool and upholstery brush. For a dedicated car vacuum, you might consider a smaller, more portable model.
